Articles: Cleaning & Resealing Exposed Aggregate

Exposed aggregate is a common theme around many backyard swimming pools and it is often a gorgeous accent to poolside appeal. When these surfaces are heavily used and begin to lose their luster, we here at Concrete Decor found a couple of great products that cleans exposed aggregate of hard water/mineral deposits and other chemicals that make them look less than appealing.

With new products hitting the market all the time, we found Tek Gel™ for Profiling an outstanding method for cleaning these surfaces. Because Tek Gel™ for Profiling (a hydrochloric acid in a gel form) lays on the surface of the concrete without absorbing into the concrete. It removes hard mineral deposits and rust from the surface without deterorating the cement. This helps to keep the exposed aggregate in place. Tek Gel™ for Profiling actually need only sit on the surface for about 5 to 15 minutes before it can be presurred washed away to the sewer. That's right... Tek Gel™ for Profiling is also safer for the enviroment. After 24 to 48 hours of drying time we then applied two coats of clear Ultra Surface Sealcoat 1000 by Concrete Solutions, Inc. Compared to the unsightly, untreated surface, this tip offers a great solution for most of your customer's stained ar tarnished concrete surfaces.
